Another point on the scoreboard as Chris Turner stated last week , but this 0-0 draw will not make Trevor Francis a happy chappy.
0-0 Att: 16,707 Play-off hopefuls Crystal Palace paid the
price for their poor finishing as they dropped two points against struggling
Sheffield Wednesday. The result stretched Wednesday's winless streak to five
games but they scrambled off the foot of the table courtesy of their point.
Palace withstood an early flurry from the Owls to take charge of the first half,
although they never looked convincing, which was also the case in the second
period as Wednesday looked comfortable against the home side. It was nine
minutes before the home side caught sight of goal with leading scorer Andrew
Johnson drilling a 25-yard shot over the bar, he also had another chance to
score, but he fored a volley over from a corner. Darren Powell got on the end of
a Tommy Black corner, his header also went over the top. Palace very nearly
scored, Black's shot in the dying seconds struck the woodwork and Wednesday
ended the half with a chance of their own, but keeper Cedric Berthelin saved
from Ashley Westwood's header. Palace remain in play-off contenion but for The
Owls its different, they are thick in the battle for survival at the bottom of
the league.
