A late late Darren Bent goal salvaged a draw for the Tractor Boys against relegation threatned Grimsby when it looked like the Mariners were to condemn Ipswich to two straight home defeats.

Darren Bent grabbed a last-minute leveller to rescue a draw at home to Grimsby, of whom slip into the bottom three on goal difference. 

First-half goals from Paul Groves and Michael Boulding had given the visitors the upper hand at half time but Grimsby's defence could not survive a second-half onslaught from Joe Royle's men. 

The Mariners, desperate for a win, opened the scoring when player-manager Groves took advantage of a mix-up in the home defence on eight minutes to drive in from five yards. 

Ipswich quickly got back into the game, Darren Bent scoring from close range after a good cross from Marcus Bent, and despite looking for the second goal, the visitors who went into the interval ahead. 

Boulding started and finished the move, running unchallenged into the danger area and scoring left-footed under the body of Pullen. 

Ipswich's surge towards the Grimsby goal was led by chances for Chris Makin, Thomas Gaardsoe, Richard Naylor and Ambrose who couldn't threaten Danny Coyne's goal but some one who did and scored a second leveller was Darren Bent, from close range after being teed up by Gaardsoe. 

Grimsby have got two home games now as they try to get themselves back out of the bottom three, on the other hand the Tractor Boys can still make the play-offs, as can a few others.
