Ipswich defender Hermann Hreidarsson is out for most of this season with a bad knee injury.

Hreidarsson will miss most of this month's fixtures with the injury , but fears also that he may not recover in time for the rest of the campaign.

The commanding defender went off injuried in Ipswich's tame 0-0 draw against relegation threatned Stoke at the weekend.

Boss Joe Royle said " Hermann has a wide gash just above his knee and that has gone through the skin and muscle."

"The doctor says it will take a minimum of three weeks to heal."

"After that, we've got to hope that there is no muscular damage." Royle added
