1999 Watford Playoff Hero Retires

Nick Wright who scored one of the goals that sent Watford up in 1999 has retired due a long standing knee injury.

Wright only 27 , suffered horrible cartilage damage back in 1999 and was told it has been irreparable , and today he announced his retirement , speaking to the Hornets official website Wright said --

"I've taken every possible step to try and regain full fitness, but it's become apparent recently that I was not going to re-establish the level of fitness that is required in today's game."

"I want to pay tribute to the club physio, Luke Anthony. He has gone above and beyond the duties expected of a club physio when treating a long-term injury such as mine."

Wright had three operations and major fitness work to prove his worth but his knee simply wasn't upto the task of dailt training and fitness work.

Wright continued in saying "I am extremely grateful for all his efforts on my behalf."

"I must also give a massive thank-you to the Watford fans whose support has been overwhelming, both before and during the term of my injury."
