Crystal Palace defender Craig Harrison has been forced into early retirement from the game after failing to overcome a troublesome broken leg.

Harrison,a £200,000 signing from Middlesborough in 2000,suffered the original injury in a reserve game against Reading in January 2001.

Despite numerous attempts at a comeback,Harrison has finally decided to hang up his boots. His manager,Trevor Francis, said of the decision "This really does put things into perspective when a player of his age has to come to this decision and I am sure I echo the sentiments of all Crystal Palace supporters in wishing Craig the very best in the future following this sad end to his career."
