Gillingham sign Wallace

Gillingham have signed striker Rod Wallace on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers.

Wallace's deal at the Reebok expires at the end of this week and Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler wasted no time in getting the former Rangers man on a two-year deal.

Gills chairman Paul Scally was quite simply ecstatic at the signing when speaking to the clubs official site.

"Although there is no fee involved, this is still the biggest acquisition the club has ever made"

"Rod was top of Andy Hessenthaler's list of players we ought to be chasing during the close season, and I know he is cock-a-hoop that we have pulled off this deal.

"This is a momentous day for our football club."

Wallace has also played for Southampton and Leeds, where he won a Championship medal in 1992.

The addition of Wallace is a welcome one at Priestfield with Marlon King in jail and Iffy Onura leaving on a Bosman the strike-force was looking a little on the thin side.
