Hay signs for Saddlers

Walsall have signed Leeds central defender Danny Hay on a bosman free transfer.

The 26-year-old is a New Zealand international and stands at 6ft 3in.

Former Leeds manager David O'Leary signed Hay from Perth Glory in 1999. The big man never managed to establish a first team place and was keen to move away with the likes of Woodgate, Ferdinand and Radebe in front of him.

Walsall managed to fight of interest from several other 1st Division clubs including Sheffield Wednesday who's boss Terry Yorath had already admitted that he was interested in the defender.

Speaking to the clubs official site Walsall boss Colin Lee spoke of his latest signing. , "I'm delighted to say he has chosen to play his trade at The Bescot Stadium and I'm looking forward to working with him.

"He was very highly thought of at Leeds United. He was unlucky with a certain injury but this has been operated on and he has fully recovered. I'm very excited to have him on board as he possesses Premiership qualities,"
