Mackay could miss opening games

Norwich skipper Malky Mackay could miss the opening games of the season with a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury in the 1-0 friendly defeat by Ajax and the defender could face up to 6 weeks on the sidelines.

Mackay was a key figure in the Norwich defence last season helping the club to the play-off final where they were eventually beating by Birmingham City on penalties.

The loss of the former Celtic man will be a major loss to the Carrow Road faithful who will be hoping to go one better this season.

Canaries boss Nigel Worthington spoke of the injury and the effects to the clubs website. "This is not good news to receive so close to the start of the season.

"Malky turned to go and chase the ball and felt his hamstring pull. It's a blow, but as we all know there's no sympathy out there.

"We've just got to face up to it and get on with the job in hand."
