O'Connor stays with Stoke

Stoke City midfielder James O'Connor has agreed to come of the transfer list after a year on it.

The 22-year-old remained on the list last season despite playing a major part in Stoke's promotion to Division 1.

Stoke boss Steve Cotterill told the clubs official site of his pure delight at the news. "I'm delighted James has made the decision he has.

"It's a commitment from him and he can now concentrate entirely on his football.

"James has proved his worth to the squad and the team, no more so than last season and I am looking forward to being able to work with him this season.

"I see him as a very important part of our squad. There's a big challenge waiting for him in the first division and I am looking forward to seeing him rise to it."
