Coventry hand trial to Leicester legend

Coventry City have handed a trial to a Leicester City legend who spent 14 years at the Filbert Street club.

The legend is of course Steve Walsh. Despite Walsh's age of 37, Coventry boss Gary McAllister belives the experienced defender can do a job for his team.

Walsh became a cult hero during his time at Filbert Street captaining them cup success. His time with the club came to an end when he joined Norwich City in the summer of 2000. 1 apperance at Carrow Road and Walsh headed for non-league outfit Tamworth.

Speaking to the clubs website McAllister revealed the reasoning for the trial. I've invited Steve in to train with us for a couple of weeks and give him an opportunity to play some games.

He's got the bit between his teeth and we'll just see how it goes as he's got to get his fitness.

"Nothing has been discussed. I know how he plays having played with him and I am full of respect for his ability."

The more sceptical of us could suggest that this is merely an 'old pals act' with McAllister hoping to attract Walsh attention which could lead to another club (probably lower league) signing him. If Coventry did sign Walsh it would be one of the strangest transfers for a very long time.
