Grimsby hand Hammer trial

Grimsby have handed Grant McCann of West Ham a trial at the east coast club.

The 22-year-old is a product of West Ham youth system that has produced the likes of Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand in recent years.

McCann has failed to make an impact in the West Ham first team so far only making 4 substitute appearance's, despite this the midfielder has still won full international honours with Northern Ireland.

McCann is still thought to be very highly rated at Upton Park so it seems the trial is with a view to a loan move.

Mariners player-boss Paul Groves confirmed the trial to the clubs official site. "We are going to have a good look at him. He's a talented left sided player and he will be at the club for two days. He spent most of last season out on loan."

McCann could play in Friday's friendly game against Stockport.
