Burton is Watford's assistant manager

Terry Burton has been confirmed as Ray Lewington's assistant at Watford.

Burton was sensationaly sacked last season as manager of Wimbledon depsite performing minor miracles with the club on a limited budget and with his players sold from beneath him.

Burton's work did not go un-noticed though and he was linked with almost every vacant managers job over the summer.

Burton will now take his place as assistant to new manager Ray Lewington at Watford. Lewington confirmed the deal to the clubs website but revealed that a delay will occur. "He wants to come, it's just a question of agreeing a deal.

"But he's just had a hip operation and he can't do anything so we'll let him get better first. "It will be two weeks before he can come in but I'm looking forward to it. We both think there's potential here."

Lewington also denied that keeper Dave Beasent was to sign for the club, the former England and Chelsea keeper is currently training with the Hornets. "Dave is training with us because he lives quite locally and he knows the coaching staff. "But there's nothing in that. We've got three goalkeepers and everyone knows what the financial situation is like at the moment."
