The Travellers Notebook - Peterhead

Saturday November the 8th 2003, Bell’s League Division Three, Peterhead v Stirling Albion, at Balmor Stadium, Kick off 3pm. Stirling Albion attempt to maintain there excellent away record and stretch their lead at the top of the division even further against fellow promotion contenders Peterhead.

The locale…Fishing and oil supply remain the major employers in the Blue Toon. Peterhead has more than its fair share of drug and crime problems.

The ground…Balmoor Stadium is capable of being cold in August. By November it could be reminiscent of the Artic. No segregation so you can change ends or sit in the far away stand.

The fans…Peterhead’s home support doesn’t seem to alter much-they can rely on about 450/500 to turn up. A few have been a bit awkward with away fans in the past. Local derbies with Fraserburgh are apparently very interesting.

The team…Many people’s bet for the title, they have not made as good a start as they would have hoped for. Ex-bino Kevin Bain never seems to be a favourite of the Peterhead support.

The travel…Just under three hours by road, assuming you do not get held up at all. Biggest dilemma is which route to take through Aberdeen. We recommend the Harbour signs and then out to the town close to Pittodrie rather than the Anderson Drive signposted ring road. If you are going by rail then Aberdeen is as far as you can get-bus from there onwards.
