Not the best start to the new year!

Sheffield Wednesday made a great start to the new year at the Racecourse to claim their first win in 13 games to the dispair of the Wrexham crowd.

The Red Dragons controlled much of the possession but could not break down The Owls and went 0-1 down with a breakaway goal from Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu in the 39th minute of the game.

Wrexham defender Brian Carey equalised soon after half-time with a good header from Paul Barrett's cross to please the Wrexham fans.

But with 30 minutes to go, another Sheffield Wednesday breakaway gave midfielder Alan Quinn the winning chance.

Chris Llewellyn had some good early chances for Wrexham, while Mark Robins was a constant threat for The Owls, hitting the post with a 33rd-minute volley which looked to have beaten Andy Dibble.

Dennis Lawrence could have won it for Wrexham but ex Middlesbrough player Robbie Mustoe cleared the ball off the line.

So sweet revenge for Sheffield Wednesday who lost to Wrexham in August at Hillsborough 2-3.
