From Brazil to Bristol

Carlos departs on Sunday with Crewe and former Wrexham goalkeeper, Clayton Ince, who is also in the Trinidad squad to face the Brazilians in Port of Spain on Tuesday.
The Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation expect a sell-out crowd.

Edwards and Ince then face a seven-hour return flight to get back in time for league games 48 hours later.

Wrexham manager Denis Smith said today to the Evening Leader: “We’ve only just had a letter from the TTFF about the game. Carlos is in the squad and obviously it’s a massive game for him and Trinidad. I just hope he comes through without injury because we’ll need him at Bristol City the Saturday after he gets back.”
 

Carlos, 25 years old, was born in Port of Spain and is looking forward to playing against the current world champions in his hometown.

His form for Wrexham is keeping him in the international spotlight along with countrymen, Dennis Lawrence and Hector Sam, who are not selected this time.

Sam was used as a second-half substitute against Stockport County in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at The Racecourse.

Smith said: “I thought Hector livened things up a bit when he came on.” Sam replaced midfielder Stephen Thomas with 17 minutes left but was unable to inspire Wrexham to a win.

Sam is tonight one of nine senior players in the reserves in a re-arranged home game against Stockport, 7.00. Smith said: “It’s possibly the strongest reserve side I’ve put out since coming here but they all need games.”

Sam will be up front with fellow striker Lee Jones as he begins his comeback from a hamstring injury. Also in the Wrexham side will be Shaun Pejic, Craig Morgan and Shaun Holmes, who has not made the Northern Ireland squad announced today for a friendly international against Norway at Windsor Park, Belfast, next Wednesday.

Smith said: “I need to have a closer look at Lee Jones now that he’s fit again. But it’s too soon to say whether he’ll be included in Saturday’s squad against Barnsley here.”
