Wilbraham in & Sam out?

According to the Evening Leader, Wrexham want Stockport striker Aaron Wilbraham on loan with Hector Sam going to Stockport as part of the deal.

Wrexham manager Denis Smith has yet to identify the man he is after, but the rumours are that the powerfully-built Wilbraham is the goal-getter he wants.

Knutsford-born Wilbraham, 6ft 3ins and just over 12 stone, has the physique Smith believes is sorely lacking up front at Wrexham.
Wilbraham, 24, impressed manager Smith in two of the three games Wrexham have played this season against County. He was not in the County side who beat Wrexham 5-4 in the LDV Vans Trophy at Edgeley Park on bonfire night.
But he played the majority of the clash on the Boxing Day game that Wrexham won 1-0 - also at Stockport. Wilbraham’s latest game against the Reds was at The Racecourse on February 7 in a 0-0 draw.
 

Wrexham manger Denis Smith has kept tabs on him and if a deal can be worked out with Sam moving to Stockport a move to Wrexham may still be on for Wilbraham. But according to newspaper reports, one of the crunch points is over Sam’s work permit which he needs to play in this country.

Smith tried to get Wilbraham in for last Saturday’s game at second division leaders, Bristol City. It fell through at the last minute, but Smith revealed he tried again. He said after Tuesday’s crushing 6-0 defeat at Bournemouth: “Perhaps now you know why I tried to get players in yesterday - and failed.”
He did not amplify that but it has since emerged the mobile Wilbraham is Wrexham’s target. He is very much in the traditional centre-forward style that Smith remembers well as a player.

He’s quick in and around the box and is an aerial threat. He came back from having an operation to correct a back problem and his seven goals in six games helped keep Stockport in the second division last season to the joy of the fans.

Smith possibly now be more convinced than ever he needs Wilbraham in the wake of the massacre away to Bournemouth. Wrexham have conceded seven goals in their last two games, but more importantly have not scored, and with Lee Jones back in contention, goals are a must if we are to stay in touch with the play-off pack.
