Roma Vs Inter Match Report

March 8 2004
I went into this with a few questions, like can Roma stay in touch with Milan, would the missing Russians finally effect them, could Inter actaully get back to playing like they are Inter Milan and not a pub side. A left the game with just one question, how can Cassano not go to Euro 2004?
Roma may have problems at the moment, but they are not on the pitch if last nights game is anything to go by.
The game was just 5 minutes old, when Cassano worked a moment of magic, followed by a wonderful chip to Emerson, which was duely converted, only for the ref to rule it off side. It was definately on side.
A rare Inter attack saw Adriano hit the post after a cross from Helveg. But this was going to be the Totti and Cassano show.
The next 10 minutes saw both Totti and Cassano work magic, only to waste the opportunities presented with weak shots.
Then 37 minutes, the goal is agian in the back of the net, this time from Totti, again this time it was ruled off side, which it was but Roma were begining to feel hard done too.
3 Minutes later a wonderfully weighted free kick from toti saw Samuel convert, and yet again the referee disalowed it, again unfairly. There was nothing wrong and it should have stood.
But at last a break through, a pass from Totti was latched onto by Cassano, who takes it in his stride and using his stregth against the inter defence, strokes it past Toldo. The ref looked gutted, he had absouletly no reason to not allow it, so eventually Roma 1 Inter 0.
2nd Half.
Inter improved in the early stages of the second half, a nice bakheal from Vieri saw Adriano shoot straight at the Roma keeper, and there were srong signs of a revival, until that is Mancini desides its time for some magic. Twisting one way then the other and recieving a fine pass from the ever present Cassano, he writhes his way through the inter defence to fire past Toldo. Roma 2 Inter 0.
Inter were showing signs of a comeback and Martins who was on for Adriano was having some good moments, bringing a save out of the Roma keeper. But the keeper was not to be as fortunate the next time, Martins recieved the ball in the area, a quick turn, then shot saw the keeper paarry and the ball arrive at the feet of Veiri. Roma 2 Inter 1.
Lima plays a lovely pass to the on rushing Cassano who was brought down in the area by Cordaba, penalty awarded which was converted by Totti, Toldo was unlucky after guessing the right way, but the shot was simply too good. Roma 3 Inter 1.
Then into injury time and another piece of magic from Cassano, who rolls the ball across for a tap in by Mancini.
Final score Roma 4 Inter 1.
