Lazio - Roma: Were the riots planned?

After 18 arrests and some 170 people injured, Police and Political groups believe that the riots may have been co-ordinated by a hardcore of Lazio and Roma fans.

Politicans are connecting the six hour riot, which one Police officer described as 'Urban warfare' to the attempt by Silvio Berlusconi to pass a contreversal law to help out cash strapped clubs., Berlusconi had previously warned that the terraces would explode if nothing was done to help the situation.

"It seems to me like an attempt to blackmail the government. It was planned to place strong pressure at a time when the government has to make an important decision," said Welfare Minister Roberto Maroni.
