Juventus get serious in race for Leeds Smith.

The race to sign Alan Smith looks like breaking out into a bidding war, with Juventus promising to get serious in the race for his signature. Sources in the club revealed that he is top of their summer wish list at the moment and they will do whatever it takes to land the Striker.

They could be helped in their quest by the player himself who admited that he used to support them as a child and would love the chance to play for them. Representatives from Juventus are believed to be putting together a package to tempt the Leeds player with a move to Turin.

However Inter Milan haven't quite given up hope of presuading the player to come to the San Siro, with a club insider insisting 'Smith is the sort of player that interests us, but Inter will always be interested in great talent, whenever its available.'

So where does this leave Manchester United, Newcastle United and Liverpool?

Well had Newcastle managed to secure Champions league, there seams little doubt that the player would have been more than happy to join his friends there. Manchester on the other hand would have always been a difficult place for a Leeds fan to go to and you could say the same with Liverpool.

It seams the best chance of Smith staying in England would be for Newcastle to secure fifth place this afternoon, whatever happens it looks very likely that Smith will be playing in Black and White next season, its just the language that might be different.
