Chelsea to make move for Roma defender

Jose Mourinho and Chelsea are preparing a bid to lure Roma defender Traianos Dellas to Stamford Bridge. Mourinho sees him as an ideal replacement for the departed Marcel Desailly.

Although the team already has some quality in central defence in the shape of Terry and Gallas, the new manager feels that there is not sufficent strength in depth for the position.

It was thought that Dellas was keen to stop at Roma and fight for a place and recent interest from Everton and Spurs were quickly played down, however with the stars currently flocking to Stamford Bridge it could be enough to tempt Dellas into a switch of countries.
