Portsmouth: Greek odyssey continues.

Beware of Greeks baring gifts, as the saying goes. Which of course dates back to the story of the Trojan horse and might as well read beware Trojan’s they’re naïve idiots, but there we have it.

But Portsmouth will be hoping there new Greeks can have the same effect on the premiership as Homer’s did on the Trojans.

Because they have made the double swoop of Konstantinos Chalkias and Giannis Skopelitis (which should at least make the people that put the names on the back of the shirts happy). Chalkias is a 31-year-old keeper from Panathinaikos, who arrives as competition for Hislop for a place in the first team.

While midfielder Skopelitis is seen as a replacement for the recently departed Amdy Faye, who joined Newcastle this week.

Speaking on to the clubs official website Milan Mandaric stated:

"We may not have finished yet and are still looking to possibly bring in two more players with one of them an offensive midfield man."

"The players we have announced today are proven and experienced."

"Konstantinos is a giant of a goalkeeper regarded as one of the top in Greek football and, in my book; you can never have enough class keepers.”

"Skopelitis is a solid defensive midfield man who fills the hole left by Amdy Faye very nicely.

"I hope this will put to rest the notion that has grown recently that we have suddenly become a selling club."
