Gabriel Batistuta has decided to hang up his boots and call time on his playing career after his contract with Qatar club Al Arabi was cancelled. A legend in Italy with Fiorentina and perhaps less so at Roma Batigol preformed wherever he went, perhaps being Fiorentina’s best ever striker.
Batistuta played 78 times for Argentina, scoring 56 goals, to become a legend in his own country, but a move Qatar proved to much for Batistuta, who complained that he thought the football there dull.
In a short statement the player simply stated:
"I announce my retirement from professional football and I thank those who helped me to have such a successful career,"
