Shearer's stay at Newcastle could help tempt Owen

Newcastle United are hoping Alan Shearer's decision to continue next season could help them lure Michael Owen into a summer move to St James’ park. Graeme Souness hasn't given up in his attempts to persuade the Real Madrid star to Tyneside.

And the chance to play alongside his self professed hero Alan Shearer could yet tempt Owen, who despite protestations to the contrary is not thought to be happy at Real Madrid by large sections of the Spanish press, who believe he will return to England in the summer.

Newcastle will lose Craig Bellamy for certain and may or may not have Kluivert for next season, they see Owen as the ideal partner for Shearer.
