Schalke flounder as Bayern go clear

Schalke went down 3-0 to Stuttgart this afternoon, which allowed Bayern Munich to ease clear in the race for the Bundesliga title. It was a miserable afternoon all round for Schalke as German international Kevin Kuranyi scored a hatrick for Stuttgart.

Then to make matters worse they lost Lincoln who was dismissed with 20 minutes to go for a second book able offence.

Bayern Munich on the other hand took full advantage of the slip up with a 2-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. They were initially behind when Ivo Ulich put the visitors ahead, but two goals from Bayern first from Mehmet Scholl, then later from Michael Ballack, who sealed the win six minutes from time.

Werder Bremen kept their UEFA Champions League hopes alive with goals from Miroslav Klose and fellow forward Ivan Klasnic for a 2-1 victory.

Borussia Dortmund had a 1-0 victory at Bayer Leverkusen, with Sebastien Kehl scoring with just two minutes left to play.

Bottom side Freiburg lost again this time 3-1 against Hertha Berlin, with 2 goals from Brazilian Marcelinho and one from Niko Kovac, with Sammy Koejoe scoring what turned out to be scant consolation for Freiburg.

Wolfsbug scored twice against FSV Mainz with strikes from Thomas Brdaric and Stefan Schnoor, enough for a 2-0 victory.

And finally in the relegation race Bochum claimed a vital 1-0 victory against Hannover, with an own goal by Steven Cherundolo enough to secure a vital 3 points.
