Advocaat Resigns As Gladbach Boss

Ex-Rangers boss Dick Advocaat has stepped down from his job as coach of struggling Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

Advocaat, 57, offered to quit after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Mainz but was persuaded to continue, with Borussia one point off the bottom three.

"I think my resignation will help ease the pressure on the club and the team," said Advocaat.

Borussia chief Rolf Konigs said: "We want to thank him for all his work."

Advocaat, who was in charge of Holland at Euro 2004, signed a three-year contract when he took the Borussia job in November.

But despite signing seven new players, Advocaat collected 18 points in as many matches and received death threats over the Internet.

Caretaker manager Horst Koppel has the task of keeping the club in the Bundesliga with five games remaining.
