Spanish eyes on Newcastle star

Real Betis are said to be the latest club chasing troubled Newcastle United winger Laurent Robert. They see him a replacement for the soon to be departing Joaquin, who looks set to leave the La Liga club in the summer.

Robert’s many troubles at Newcastle means he is seldom out of the press and he looks an almost certainty to leave in the summer, having fallen out with manager Souness for the umpteenth time during his stay at Newcastle.

Often superbly talented, as often lazy and annoying, Robert will always have admirers but whether they will be big enough admirers to fork out his £40,000 a week pay packet remains to be seen.
