Tottenham's Erik Edman is no longer a Rennes target after the French side eventually admitted defeat in their chase for the player. He had been identified as a summer swoop for the Ligue 1 outfit, but they are finally giving up trying to persuade the player.

They have now turned their attention to Swiss starlet Alain Rochat and persuaded him to sign a four year deal with the club.

Rochat staed speaking on the deal to 24 Heures:

"In the end I was really hesitating between Rennes and Auxerre.”

"I followed my feelings, Alexander Frei told me even during difficult moments he always felt at ease at Stade Rennais."
