Figo latest

According to the Spanish press four teams are still interested in signing Luis Figo, Newcastle United, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool. But as of this morning no decision has been taken.

The stumbling block remains as ever his huge wage demands of 6 million euros net per year, and as he still has a year remaining on his Madrid contract he is not forced to move anywhere.

It is generally understood that out of the four mentioned, Liverpool would interest him the most, and if Gerrard was to leave, some sort of deal is being hinted at where Madrid would continue to pay some of Figo’s wages allowing him to come to Anfield.

Another way around it being hinted at by the Figo camp, if for Madrid to give him a pay off, much in the same way Inter Milan did with Christian Vieri, and allow him to negotiate his own contract at a lesser wage.

Whatever happens, it seems there may be an answer provided this week.
