Newcastle United, never made van Buyten an offer.

According to German newspaper Bild Belgian centre-back Daniel van Buyten, refused a move to St James Park, which has come as a bit of a shock to the Newcastle board, who were not aware they had actually made him an offer.

A Newcastle United spokesman speaking to the official site stated:

"The Club has never made a formal offer to Hamburg for this player.

"So we are at a loss to see how van Buyten can refuse an offer that has never been made."
