Next Sunday, Martin Petrov will play his last match for Wolfsburg and on Monday he will be presented as a new Atlético player. ‘Los Colchoneros’ will pay 8.5 million euros.

In order to make the transfer possible, the Bulgarian player had to give up his share of the transfer fee, of around 1.5 million euros. The original bid was of 10 million, and since the Spanish team was having trouble to afford such fee, the player decided to reduce the costs of the transfer by giving up his share. This way, Wolfsburg, who will receive 8.5 million euros, finally accepted Atlético’s offer.

Wolfsburg tried to make negotiations very tough, but Petrov’s action forced them to let him go. They claim that it is not definitive and they still can retain the player. Their Press Chief Kurt Rippholz stated:

“We know that Atlético want Martin and the player is desiring to leave; but as long as there is no concrete offer, he will stay here because we are also interested in keeping him
