Speaking on his personal website "Icons" website Patrick Kluivert spoke of his time on Tyneside with a mixture of emotions, feeling Newcastle never quite got the best out of him:
On the Icons site he says he looked back on his time at Newcastle with pleasure and is quoted as saying: "In my year at Newcastle with pleasure. I always wanted to play in England and in that respect I got my wish. However, if you ask me whether it was a success or failure, I'd say it was probably neither of the two. I had a mixed time at the club." He goes on tyo say he wished he had played more games adding: "I felt I had a lot to offer the side, but I wasn't really given an extended run to prove my worth. When I was fully fit, I thought I did well and my goal record in all competitions was slightly better than a goal every other game. It was such a big disappointment to only start 15 Premiership matches last season and I really would have liked to have played more." For my twopeneth Kluivert always looked lazy, but by god the lad could score goals. I wished he could have cut out the pies and applied himself; we missed out on a chance to see a legend. Which is what he could have been, had he enough desire.
