Shevchenko off to England?

Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool are all being touted as possible destinations for arguably the best centre forward in the world Andriy Shevchenko, after it was let slip by Milan owner and Italian premier Silvio Berlusconi, that his star wanted to move to England.

Italian news agency ANSA quoted Berlusconi as saying. "He wants to go to England.''

Chelsea have of course long been linked with a multi million pound move for Shevchenko, but have up until now been rebuffed in their efforts to sign him, but now there are rumours of a 40 million pound deal involving Argentina striker Hernan Crespo.

Manchester United could also enter the frame, with trouble brewing between Sir Alex and Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Italian papers feel there could be an outside chance of a move to Old Trafford, but where Chelsea’s income appears to be unlimited funds could prove to be a stumbling block in any proposed move to Manchester.

Last in the favoured trio of potential suitors are Liverpool, desperate for a proven goal scorer, who will regularly contribute 20 goals a season, Shevchenko could be the ideal man, but whether Liverpool could afford him, yet again at this time appears unclear.

Shevchenko himself has yet to state any preference and indeed comment upon his alleged departure.

I would just like to add as a Newcastle fan, ten years ago we shocked the world of football, by signing the best striker of his generation, I would love it; simply love it to do it again.

Still I am probably dreaming there.
