Wolves bound star misses final

Tony Warner may have played his last game for Millwall while Charley Hearn has been added to the growing list of players who will miss the FA Cup final.

It has been confirmed that Warner and Roberts will definitely miss out on the May 22 clash as they are still up to a month away from recovering from knee injuries.

It means that Warner, who was last in the starting line up against Sunderland in January, may have played his last game for Millwall.

His contract runs out at the end of next month, and he will now have the opportunity to decide what club he plays for next season from any offers on the table.

But Hearn will also be unavailable for the final, as he has picked up a hernia problem. The midfielder made his first start under manager Dennis
Wise in the defeat at Derby earlier this week, but will now definitely miss out on the match in Cardiff.

The trio will join suspended striker Danny Dichio, and knee ligament victim, skipper Kevin Muscat, on the sidelines.

Assistant manager Ray Wilkins told Southwark News: “There’s no chance for Tony Warner and Andy Roberts to play in the final. They’re out of it.

“It’s always a blow for them as people. We worked hard to progress and when you miss out it’s hard to take.

“Charley Hearn will also miss the game with a hernia. It’s a great shame because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, just as it was for Kevin Muscat and Danny Dichio.”

But Paul Robinson returned to training last week.

Although the centre back, who tore his cruciate ligaments at Norwich in November, will not be in contention for the Manchester United game, he should be fit for next pre-season.

Last Saturday’s behind closed doors game with Canvey Island was an opportunity for Millwall to look at trialists, and not to help with cup final selection, Wilkins added.

“We had a couple of people coming to have a run-out so we had a game arranged.”
