Winger joins Lions

Former Everton, Sunderland and Leeds winger John Oster is reportedly on trial at Millwall. The Wales international can play on either flank and is a free agent after being released by Burnley in May 2005.

He struck the crossbar against us in the early stages of our FA Cup semi-final, so we won't forget Oster in a hurry.

The 26-year-old Welsh winger made eight appearances for Leeds last season but was sent back to Sunderland for a breach of club discipline at the Christmas party.

Yet Oster had been training with Leeds again recently and it is believed that manager Kevin Blackwell was keen to sign him, but Oster moved back to Lancashire and has been training with Preston.

He played in a friendly for Preston when they sent a team to Bamber Bridge and drew 1-1. Despite a whole host of substitutions Oster went on to play the entire ninety minutes but afterwards manager Billy Davies made it clear he would not be signing for them.

Davies said: “He’s had a couple of days training with us.

“He won’t be travelling with the rest of the squad to Italy. He needed to work on his fitness and we have given him that opportunity, he has been good to have with us.”
