Smith pleased with Dundee United's clean sheet

Alex Smith was philosophical after seeing Dundee United fail to break down St Johnstone in a disappointing scoreless draw.

The Tangerines, boosted by their win at neighbours Dundee a week ago, had hoped to continue their fine form.

But Smith admitted his side failed to lift themselves but believes keeping a clean sheet was one of few positives to be taken from the game.

He said: "Unfortunately I have not a lot to say about this afternoon. Sometimes in football it is difficult to lift your game, and you have to feel sorry for the fans who paid good money for a disappointing match.

"The only real positive note for us was that we never looked like conceding a goal, and we were a little bit livelier when Charlie Miller went up front in the second-half, but we missed Steven Thompson today and his presence up front."
