Tangerines boss complains of wretched luck

Dundee United boss Ian McCall bemoaned his side's luck as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Motherwell at Fir Park.

David Clarkson struck a second-half hat-trick to secure the points for Well after they had fallen behind to a Mark Wilson free-kick in the 15th minute.

McCall said: "Any luck we had before today just left us. Motherwell were very hungry in the second-half but we played some magnificent football.

"Jim McIntyre hit the inside of the post and that would have put us 2-0 up and then, at one each, Andy McLaren hit a great volley which hit big Marshall.

"So, everything that could have gone against us, went against us and it was just one of those games where we didn't have any luck."

"McIntyre pulled up with a calf strain and Chris Innes pulled up with a groin strain so it's not been a great day for us."

But McCall has urged Scotland boss Berti Vogts to have a look at Martyn Corrigan after the defender impressed along with Clarkson.

McCall said: "Credit to Motherwell, the boy Clarkson has got a chance of making it, there's no doubt about that.

"And how Martyn Corrigan doesn't get a mention for Scotland is beyond me."
