Adryan Winnan - one of Cornwall's most gifted rugby stars is set to return to Cornwall as a member of the Cornish Pirates team for the season 2006/07. Just 23 years old this is a major signing for the Pirates, who are expected to challenge strongly at the top of ND1 this coming season

 | After weeks of rumour & speculation that the Cornish Pirates were about to sign a Big Name Cornish player, it was announced today that Adryan Winnan is to return to the Duchy & play for the Pirates Winnan - one of Cornwall's most gifted rugby stars - is the latest quality signing announced by the Cornish Pirates Still just 23 years of age, he has been playing at Tarbes in the South-West of France for the last two seasons |
He has close ties to the Penryn club, and also played for Redruth & Ivybridge College before joining Saracens as an apprentice in 2001.
At Saracens he played alongside world-class greats such as Tim Horan and Thomas Castaignede, he was a popular member of the Saracens team. At the end of the 2001/02 season Adryan won the Fans' Player of the Year award and was also heralded by the coaches as the Young Player of the Year.
A proud Cornishman, who appreciates the support given by his family, he is the son of Paul Winnan, also a full-back, who played 53 times for Cornwall between 1970 and 1985.

He is a tough competitor who obviously enjoys his rugby and
is on a steep learning curve. In his first senior game (against London Wasps in
the first game of the 2001/02 season) when others faltered around him, he kept
his cool, and was absolutely secure under the high ball. He has gone from strength
to strength and last season took the number 15 jersey ahead of Thomas Castaignede.
Not
just content with catching and kicking, he is very much a running full back with
a keen eye for the gap. He is definitely a player to watch and former team mate
Tim Horan believes that before long he'll be winning senior caps for his country.
He is certainly moving in the right direction and has represented England in the
U21 World Cup .
