Sancreed, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Poor old Rob Nolan has thrown his dolly out because right up until the last minute he probably thought he was going to win, he even tried to influence the vote from the position of Chairman!! Sorry Mr Nolan but for once the public (through the majority of the committee) have spoken and have been listened to.
I really don't care for your views anymore so maybe this is the time for you to either shut up and get off the SPC or get on with this wonderful opportunity and help make it work for the whole of Cornwall. The biggest mistake in my opinion was back earlier in the year when you and your cohorts passed two other projects for supermarkets thinking that the S4C was dead in the water. Talk about the biter being bit!!!

Another Worcester supporter here just wanting to say congratulations to everyone involved with this for not giving up.

It will be great to see Pirates moving into a new home, which will give them the chance to aim for the Premiership. On the way home last night I popped into the local offie and was delighted to be able to pick up a couple of bottles of Tribute, as that was what we drank at the Mennaye when we played you last season. Got home and toasted your good health and future success.

Whenever Warriors have played Pirates in Penzeance we have come down and stayed over, usually for 3-4 days. We have always made a point of using local shops and businesses rather than the big chains/multinationals, and have not been alone, by any means. I'm absolutely gobsmacked that this seems to be completely lost on some of your elected representatives and business leaders, especially as it is "out of season spend".

Really hoping for the chance to come down to Truro in the future, either for a friendly or, preferably, a Premiership match.

And I do think that this will mean that some of your ex-players may well look to "come home" towards the end of their careers, which will add experience and may help you keep hold of some of your better and younger players in the future.

Onwards and upwards.

At last - the real prospect for a quality Sports Centre for Cornwall. Teams like Cornish Pirates will no longer have to play as nomads - moving around the Duchy - Penzance, Truro, Camborne, Penzance - every few years. A team with a fixed home - a sports centre for all land based sports.

I'm Cornish by birth and it has always horrified me at the way that local politics has been like watching some petty primitive tribal activity.

Finally, FINALLY, we have found a group of Councillors who are prepared to put the needs of the Duchy ahead of their own.

I have posted the email addresses of those councillors who supported the enabling application. Please consider contacting them to pass on your thanks. I'm sure it will be appreciated.

I've emailed all of them - as you say P15, they deserve our thanks.
Hope they all get a free ticket to the first game in the stadium.

Have written and already received responses from some, they certainly deserve a ticket, also worth writing to the nays and polite!y giving them a hard time.

The vote enabling the stadium 11-8 may well have been supported by the councillors listed but there was a crucial vote prior to this to follow planning officers advice and reject the stadium. This was defeated but only by 10-9 i.e there were 10 councillors against. It is ONLY those 10 councillors we should really be thanking, not the one that switched sides for the enabling vote when it was obvious the enabling vote would go through anyway.

Good job he, or she did change their stance, though - so they did the right thing in the end. That'll do for me.

Nothing in today's Cornishman, which was pretty disappointing - except MP Derek Thomas, in his piece, says:

"Any building project has its fair share of obstacles and "hiccups"so, as promised, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport is visiting West Cornwall to set up a working group to keep the project moving forward. This group will be made up of the key players, including sports organisations, the developers, Cornwall Council, Penwith and Truro College, Sport England and Cornish MPs. My understanding is that the stadium will be completed in 2017 ...."

Tommy Tyrannosaurus had his rant in the Falmouth Packet letters column, only spoilt by the headline spelling "Farsical Decision". Of course his letter was as normal, farcical!

The West Briton had a full front page spread and another two full pages inside.St Austell MP Steve Double made a comment that Indian Queens could still go ahead.

Does he mean another stadium up there 1spy?

Steve Double mentioned that he would like to see some sort of sports hub at Indian Queens which is a bit of a shift away from his earlier comments about it being a suitable alternative site for the stadium.

That is what he was saying in the newspaper.Maybe he thought it was April 1st!

My face-Ache page has just popped-up with an announcement that the Culture Secretary (John Whittingham) has today met with stadium partners and August 2017 will be the opening date for yhe stadium.
If this is bone-fide, it's two fingers for Nolan, Bray and the Indian Queens M.P.!!

I emailed both the news and sports section of the Cornishman this morning expressing surprise that there is no article in today's paper.

The sport section replied in agreement saying they thought there was going to be and apologised, but said planning issues were left to the news dept.

The news section said it had been extensively covered online and anyway it was a Truro-centric issue!

However there will be an article in next week's Cornishman

Update on todays meeting from the S4C website.
A Stadium for Cornwall meeting was held by the Secretary of State, John Whittingdale today.

In attendance at Redruth were Derek Thomas MP, Sport England, Cornwall Council, LEP, Truro City Football Club, Cornish Pirates, Truro & Penwith College and The Stadium 4 Cornwall.

This is the start of talks about the delivery of a Stadium for Cornwall now that planning permission is in place.

Really positive news about today's meeting.

Things certainly looking good.

Roll on the start of the season.

It all looks so positive now and a world away from 2 weeks ago. As for dear old duffer Tommy, so glad he didn't disappoint! Surprised Fifi hasn't had her say either. I'm having to pinch myself to believe that this has at last and finally got the go ahead.

To help your thinking, this the reply I had from County Councillor Malcolm Brown four days ago.

"To be honest with you, I am enthusiastic about the stadium project but have been concerned that the enabling development was diverging too far from planning policy. Therefore initially I voted to refuse the application. However,a detailed proposal was then worked up after a short adjournment which placed conditions on the proposal which I considered reasonable and not excessively onerous. On that basis I was then able to vote for the development which pleased me. I hope that this will turn out to be a big step towards the fulfilment of the vision which you and others have."

Make of that what you will, I find his reply encouraging.

I wonder why the official Stadium 4 Cornwall web page has not been updated with the result of the Planning Authority's decision. I realise that there are Twitter comments there which reflect the decision but one is apt to look to the official website for the latest information. Over the coming months, as the scheme develops, it would be valuable to have the latest position explained on the Stadium web pages.

Take it easy on them CP - they are an independent amateur pressure group not an official body

They do their best but they are not an official source

I am sure they will do their best to keep things current with their volunteer subscribers

Dotcom we did our best as "AMATEURS" and it was a successful seven year campaign.
