Clarets chase Gudjonsson

Numerous media sources are today suggesting that Burnley are on the verge of signing AZ Alkmaar’s Icelandic midfielder Joey Gudjonsson. Gudjonsson, 26, is contracted with AZ until 2010, but it is believed that manager Louis van Gaal is willing to let the player leave for £260,000.

The hard-working midfielder has played in English football before, joining Aston Villa on loan from Spanish giants Real Betis, before going on to play for Wolves and Leicester City. He became a fan’s favourite at Leicester, and will be remembered there for his astonishing goal scored from the half-way line against Hull last season. He was also in the Iceland side that beat Northern Ireland 3-0 at Windsor Park in September.

Gudjonsson is a player known for possessing a tremendous shot, and chips in with goals from midfield, something our current squad is severely lacking. He is also a player strong in the tackle, and should this move come off, it will certainly be a coup for Clarets boss Steve Cotterill and for Burnley.
