The Match Report for Burnley's 2-1 win against West Bromwich Albion. Second half goals from Duff and Gray allow the Clarets to pick up three points at Turf Moor in front of a noisy 15,000 fans despite conceding a goal in the first half to the Baggies.
The Clarets kicked off the season with a second-half comeback and a three-point start.
An early goal from Kevin Phillips changed the game and although it could have been avoided, it helped West Brom dominate the first half. The Clarets came back though and 2 minutes into the second half, the ball went goalward following a Duff header and the Clarets had equalised. The team seemed more confidence at the back with the defense keeping West Brom at bay and Kiraly making some crucial saves. All that was needed was a change up front where we were struggling to make the most of any chances we had.
This enabled us to have something extra up front with Ade running at the defense and this led to a handball in the area and allowed Gray to give the Clarets a lead from the spot on 79 minutes. The buzz after the game was amazing, we had beat one of the divisions promotion favourites despite going into the second half 1-0 down in front of a 15,000 crowd. There's still a long way to go yet but things are looking a brighter shade of claret as we go to take on the little fish of Grimsby tomorrow in the League Cup. Burnley: West Brom: Att: 15,337. A new Ade Akinbiyi or the Ade of old depending on how you look at it came on and replaced Robbie Blake who recieved a great reception on his first home league game since his return to Turf Moor.
