Burnley Overcome Southampton 3-2

Burnley this afternoon defeated Southampton by 3 goals to 2 in what at first looked like being an easy victory for the Clarets after they had taken a 3-0 lead in what was a blistering start for them, but the second half turned out to be a bit of a nailbiter for the Clarets faithful.

In front of a Turf Moor crowd of 11,229 Burnley raced into a 3 goal lead within the first 11 minutes with goals from Perry (og) on 4mins, Gudjonsson with a header on 7 minutes and Gudjonnson this time firing in on 11 minutes. The soreline should have been greater before the interval with Parerson, McCann and Eagles all having close efforts.
The Saints were definitely geed up during the break, they took to the pitch well before Burnley and started off like a house on fire. In the 49th minute Skacel got one back, then on 61 minutes Surman got another to make it 3-2. The last half hour saw Southampton have more of the play, but Burnley held out for a welcome 3 points.
Martin Paterson was voted man of the match by the sponsors, and we had bookings for Carlisle and Thompson which certainly don't help the Clarets cause.
Next up Bristol City away.
