Players Pride & Passion

On a wet and windy night with the world watching and 4-1 down from the first leg of this Carling Cup Tie, most Burnley fans could be forgiven for staying at home and watching the match on the T.V

But this is Burnley and we have pride and passion in abundance and what we witnessed tonight was nothing short of amazing.  What just under 20,000 fans were about to see was the best Burnley performance I have ever seen from 14 players in the famous claret n blue shirt.

Robbie Blake (Dawson was his boot cleaner)was again superb after his wonder strike against PNE he again popped up with another wonder free kick on 34mins to lift the roof off Turf Moor, this gave us a glimmer of hope.  Dare we believe it was pretty much all Burnley for the first half and going into the break the thoughts of the 1st leg came to mind, would we implode after leading at half time no we didn't.

The crowd were buzzing now the wind the rain all forgotten, sing your hearts out for the lads.  Can you believe it Robbie on another jinking run split the multi million pound defence of Spurs and fed a lovely ball into the box for McCann to slot home on 73mins, whats going on Harry this was not in the script 2 goals down no sign of the millions invested in Spurs turning over this poor little town team surely not.  Then it happened was history about to be made, young Jay is on the pitch and on 88mins performed acrobatics to score a goal which every Burnley fan will never forget, is this the one that takes us to Wembley?

Extra time came and after all the games our boys had played(remember we already played 30mins extra time in Jan)the lads were still pushing for a winner.  In the second period of extra time the lads were almost walking, it was all getting to much mentally and physically they looked drained and the inevitable happened,2 minutes just 2minutes from our dream with the lads so tired up popped Pavlyuchenko on 118mins to slot home the goal that just crushed our dreams and 1min later Defoe got a second. The dream was over.

A night that will live in my heart forever, Robbie was man of the match but to me they all were.  Well done lads there is always next year.  There was even an accepted marriage proposal, well at least he was one happy claret.

On a sad note i would just like to say on behalf of all on the Longside that our thoughts and good wishes are with the family of
Mr Kenneth Hartley who sadly suffered a heart attack in the last minutes of the game and passed away.  rip claret from us all.

Even though we got knocked out of the comp, I hope BFC will be selling the DVD of this game. Definitely a cup run to watch again & again, to cheer us up when we're feeling down.

I don't think anyone could have asked for more from the team.(Sm152) We've already played more games than any other club, but if they can show the same skill, passion & doggedness in the remaining league games, we won't be far off at the end of the season.

Cloud to be a parrot!..... (Sm11) hic.

I've got to admit it, I still feel drained. I have had to kiss my Burnley crest every day, am I a saddo? No I am just so, so proud to be a Claret. Wembley and the Carling Cup will be forgotten when we are cheering the boys on in the Play-Off Final in May. COME ON YOU CLARETS!!!!
