Claret Jug Empty At The Vicarge.

The Clarets went to the Vicarage to try and turn around their league form after their recent cup exploits but how quickly it can all go wrong.

After a minutes silence for a fallen soldier at the start of the game the 500 hundred traveling Claret fans were stunned in to silence once again after just 56 seconds.

McAnuff after some very early woefull defending was, at the second attempt, allowed to bundle his effort over the line.  On a pitch more suited to rugby than flowing football, the Clarets were already in that all to familair position of playing catch up. Just a few moments later the Watford striker was at it again testing Jensen from the edge of the box.

Burnley as so often this season started to get back into the game after the early set back and as the half went on enjoyed the lions share of possession. Blake had another what is becoming trade mark free kick and sent this just inches over the bar and then Burnley top scorer Martin Paterson went close with a 25 yard effort but for all theIR efforts Burnley could not find the net in the first half.

Burnley had the first chance in the second half after Pato crossed for Blake whose header was miraculously tipped over by Watford keeper Loach who was, by a country mile, the busier of the 2 keepers. A famous manager once said "Football Is A Funny Old game" and sometimes thats the way it goes, you put all the effort in and get nothing out of a game. That's just what happened here as Watford brought Priskin and ex Claret John Harley on and they had an immediate effect, Harley fizzing a cross in for Priskin to slot home with his first touch of the match. The game had gone now and with the Clarets looking very leg weary Priskin showed real hunger for the ball and on a night that the Clarets defence will want to forget scored again in the 94 minute. That's 5 league games now with out a win and Burnley will be looking to put that right against lowly Charlton this coming Saturday.

I met the Watford keeper in a pub near Newark on Friday, he was a bit dull.

Good report.
