Throstles choked by Clarets

Another cold night at the Turf, another premiership team to entertain and yet another outstanding performance from Owen Coyles troops.
This time it was WBA in the fourth round replay of the FA Cup that were humbled by our spirited battling team. This game was said by Coyle to be the best performance of the season, that's some compliment when you consider we have seen off Chelsea, Arsenal and were very unlucky not to beat Spurs over 2 legs. A stunning first half volley in stoppage time from Wade Elliot gave the Clarets a deserved lead at half time in a game which Burnley had dominated for much of the first 45 minutes. Robbie Blake had also gone close with what now is becoming one of his trade mark free kicks. Brian Jensen was again at his beast keeping out a shot from Bednar and a header from close range from Donk, but it was Robbie Blake with another strong performance who gave the visiting teams defence a torrid time and set up Wade for his wonder strike at the end of the half. The Baggies started the second half brightly and with just a minute gone Bednar again headed just wide and the Czech striker just moments later managed to somehow miss a ball across the box when the goal beckoned. Burnley made them pay for these misses and on 52 mins a brilliant cross by Kalvenes was met by Patersons great header which was blocked but Super Steve Thompson smashed the rebound home from close range. On the hour mark Zuiverloon dragged one back for Brom but it was Burnley who kept going for a third with Blake and Paterson going close. On another great cup night at Turf Moor it was Super Thompson who put the tie to bed on 87 minutes to set up an away tie with either Arsenal or Cardiff in the next round. Well done Burnley.
