The Clarets Blues

A super game down at St Andrews and for the travelling Burnley fans there was early cause for celebration as Martin Paterson gave the Clarets an early lead on 3 minutes.
It was Patos 11th league goal of the season and he and Thompson could have had a couple more each in a first half which Burnley dominated. The Clarets had a hat full of chances to put this game to bed in the opening 25 minutes but after singing the praises of Brian Jensen last week, the big lad let us down after a dreadfull back pass from skipper Caldwell, Jensen made a beastly attempt to head the ball and presented Kevin (will he ever retire) Phillips with a gift to bring Brum level on 37 minutes. Carsley, Boywer and Sinclair all had chances in the second half for the hosts, but the brave lads in Claret and Blue playing their 42 game of the season never say die and went in search of a winner. Seven minutes from time Thomson tested the home keeper but was unable to convert and the game then petered out for a hard fought draw. It's a sign of good times at Burnley when we are unhappy with a point from a team who are genuine contenders for promotion but apart from one silly mistake Owen Coyles men would have bagged all 3 points and can be proud of their performance. Burnley now drop to 10th in the Championship but are still only 3 points off a play off place and if they continue to play like this for me anyway they will win more than they lose.
