The trouble with my father was that basically he was a miserable bugger. I don’t mean that unkindly and my mother used to tell me it wasn’t his fault. And sometimes she'd tell him as well.
He shared the same name as Vincent Van Gogh, well not the Van Gogh bit, just the Vincent, and the story goes that Vincent Van Gogh's brother used to chide his famous brother for being miserable. Perhaps it's something that goes with the name. Anyway Vincent the painter was also a pauper and a manic depressive, in fact, apart from his painting not much to write home about. So, whilst my mother and Vincent's brother, Theo, shared something in common in that they both had connections to a miserable bugger, and often told them to snap out of it, the advice of both was pretty much ignored. Some defence can be mounted for Vincent-the-brush, however, since Theo had the habit of talking to his brother's deaf ear. To read the full article please click on the link below; |
