Welcome To Barnsley : Police Message

By Burnley FC
December 18 2010

Welcome to Barnsley. Please take a few moments to read the below information South Yorkshire Police wish you a safe and enjoyable fixture. Safety is of paramount importance and we seek your support to achieve this.

To assist you, we will escort your coach to the Football Club away end car park adjacent to the ground.
Refreshments are available at the ground along with limited capacity at the nearby Metrodome Sports Club.  I would be grateful if you would consider using these facilities rather than going into the town centre.  It helps with the free flow and safety of the fixture.
Please make your way to the away turnstiles that are situated to the left-hand side of the ground as you approach. Turnstiles will be open from 1.30pm.
Please act responsibly and enjoy the fixture.
At the conclusion of the match, please make your way directly to your coach. All coaches will leave together when full and will be escorted by the police back to the M1 Motorway.
South Yorkshire police will be working in partnership with Barnsley Football Club and other agencies. There is a significant police and club steward operation to deal with those attending the fixture in a drunken state. Please drink sensibly. Drunkenness, Pitch incursions or Racist behaviour will not be tolerated.
Positive action will be taken against any offenders.

Thank you for your co-operation. I hope you enjoy an entertaining festive match
.

Not a chance.

If by some miracle our manager is dismissed next week I'll be drinking wherever I like in Barnsley thank you very much.

Is that Sports Club the leisure centre near the ground? I ended up supping in some bowling alley last time I was there (on police advice.)

So basically, on what is going to be a pretty freezing cold day, they want us all to hang around the concourse.

You might not from the Fans But the police will give you grief.

A few seasons back we were told to go to this pub for away fans, We did as told & then (Police wouldn't let anyone out once in) 45 Minutes before kick off we were told we would be searched then we had to stand in a line before being escorted to the ground. There was 5 minutes to kick off by the time this happened then we were escorted back to the train station & put on trains home. Without seeing a ball kicked. It was a Joke same as South Yorkshire police are so be warned

PBLF - went a couple of years ago on my own with the plan of meeting Marv in the ground near kick off.

Got there early and thought I'd have a few drinks around town. A copper stopped me off the train and told me I must, must go to the designated away supporters pub only, forget the name of it.

I said, "yeah, I'll go there"

"OK he says, you must go to that pub and that pub only, understand?"

"Yeah yeah I will"

I didn't do a word he said and went to a couple of boozers I fancied going in.

Dream on copper.

I always do my best to avoid trouble and the only time I've encountered really serious problems with the Police was at Doncaster. Treated like shite, abused and obstructed for no reason at all except we were going to a football match.

Same force, S. Yorkshire, a cowboy outfit.

I'm unlikely to be wearing colours (too embarrassed as bison head is our manager) and I've gone to the same pub everytime I've been, with no problems.

I wouldn't ask the police for an away friendly pub in Barnsley, as the only time we did, we got three different answers from three different policepersons.
