Burnley 3 Blackpool 1
By Burnley FC
October 29 2011
Goals from Charlie Austin, Ross Wallace, and Marvin Bartley made it a night of derby delight for the Clarets as they secured a second home win of the season in impressive style.
An outstanding first half performance laid the foundations for a second successive Championship win, which lifted Burnley into mid-table. Austin's ninth goal of the season paved the way, before a thundering free kick from Wallace effectively sunk the Seasiders, whose winless run at Turf Moor stretched to six matches. Weird eh davet?
I was really hacked off after the poor show at Barnsley, but the facts don't really support the hysteria.
We've now won 4 of the last 6 league games.
We have a player within the top 3 of the goalscoring chart.
For all the moaning about the defence, we've got a positive goal difference and there are 15 other clubs who have conceded the same or more goals than us.

As an exile, watching that; we certainly have the potential to become a very good team.
I can see why we're struggling at times though. Easton scared me half to death in his brief cameo and even when fit I can't see a way back for him now. Amougou and Edgar are always going to have 'that moment' but they were solid enough yesterday I thought. Grant's confidence seems to be increasing and we look all the better for it.
Majorly impressed with Stanislas, I must say, and Austin will score a load more than he misses. The man on the spot, always in the right place.
Bartley looks a steal and Wallace is showing some real promise at long last. Cracking free-kick, thank God he told Amougou to '@#$%&-off'.
I was dreading this game, it's always brilliant to win a derby, but we were brilliant I thought. If we can do that consistently we'll have no problems this season.

Good performance, we've got some good players.
I do like the thinking, give Ross Wallace the ball and see what happens, Bikey you are a @#$%& @#$%&. Pick that one out you bellend.
How good's Bartley? Like a poor man's Paul Ince.

Well yes it is Mr T.
We've got a good team here, cut out the individual mistakes (Easton and Edgar) and this team could make the play-offs.

Steady on. We won't get near the play offs I don't think, but the hysteria following the Barnsley and Cardiff defeats was silly (and I joined in with some of it).
The board have certainly lowered expectations mind.

I think we're all guilty of bi-polar reactions this season. The team swings so wildly between brilliance and woeful, it difficult to know what to make of them.

It really is hard to know what to make of this team, but I'm not getting too carried away. We've been here before this season, after thrashing Forest 5-1, but we lost 2 out of the next 3 games.
We might have won 4 out of our last 6 league games, but also we've lost 3 of the last 5 games we've played.
It's still my belief that we're probably an average mid-table team, based on my (possibly dubious) theory that average teams very rarely play average football, they tend to alternate between playing well and playing poorly, in other words they're inconsistent, and this sums up perfectly our season so far.
Mid table mediocrity it is for me then, but this is a young team which has tremendous scope to get better, providing the board provides some stablity for the manager and he can get a couple more players in.

"a substandard bunch of young rudderless players with no player to inspire them on the pitch"
the football is absolutely dire
the manager is a cold fish from the coaching factory
the man obviously has issues with older players who can answer back"
changed your mind on any of the above you were saying three days ago? stanislas??

Just thinking about it and there are another couple of things stopping me getting too carried away with yesterday's win.
We still can't keep a clean sheet, must be just one in going on for 30 games now.
If we pick up two or three injuries/suspensions in the near future we could be struggling to get a team on the field. I don't know the extent of Easton's injury but as of last night we were down, I think, to just 4 fit defenders.
On the plus side, purely by chance, Eddie has surely discovered our best back four. Why it took an injury to play Mee at left-back instead of Easton is beyond me though.

True soapy, but it also seems that the inability to keep a clean sheet doesn't make a bad defence, There's still only 7 teams in the division conceded fewer than us. It's bizarre, but we must be doing something right.
Or something wrong at least once a game.

I have made my mind up Clan, several times already this season. After Forest it was play-offs, after Barnsley relegation, after Coventry play-offs, after Cardiff relegation, after Blackpool mid-table.
Be fair, you can never accuse me of sitting on the fence.

I agree with the fundamental analysis bc, ie. that our squad is entirely inadequate to sustain any kind of promotion push and that the requirements in terms of players has not changed.
I would go further and say that we risk losing our manager if it is the board that is at fault for this situation.

Tell you what I think soapy, after seeing this team vary between playing promotion and relegation football, often in the same week, anyone who's prepared to put money on just where we'll finish this season is a braver man than I am.
I backed them to go down earlier this season @ 16/1. I wouldn't do it now, I think we're better than a relegation team, but by how much I don't have a clue.
