After their heroic efforts this season the Clarets finished the campaign empty handed as defeat at Deepdale ended their final chance of silverware.
Having pipped Burnley to the Youth Alliance title by a single point, Preston also added the Lancashire Youth Cup at the Clarets expense as they lifted the trophy for the fourth year running. A goal early in the second half from star man Brandon Zibaka was enough for North End coach Jamie Hoyland to put one over his former club as the Clarets looked a shadow of the side that had reached the last four of the FA Youth Cup. It looked one game too many for them, or maybe it was a lot of games too many. They've coped with the loss of Tom Anderson, Jack Errington never let them down, they missed Howieson in midfield, but maybe he'd have been as knackered and jaded as the rest of them anyway. It was the loss of Adam Evans that was crucial though. He can take men on, beat them, get the crosses in and score himself but last night McCartan was on his own upfront and could only rarely pose a threat.
We were well beaten on the night but they were beaten mainly as a result of their own success, a shame really, they deserved something from this season.
