DANNY Ings struck again as the Clarets kept Leicester at arms-length in a thrilling top of the table clash.The Clarets striker slotted home his 16th goal of the campaign 90 seconds into the second half to cancel out David Nugent’s early penalty for the Foxes.
It has been a nervy first half by Burnley, who were forced onto the back foot for long periods by a City team desperate to bounce back from successive away defeats. But Burnley were much brighter after the break and in an end-to-end half it was Sean Dyche’s side who would have been happier with another valuable point to underline their status as leaders. The Clarets were boosted by the return of midfielder Dean Marney, back in the squad for the first time in over a month and replacing Brian Stock in the only change to the side that beat Barnsley last weekend. But with Leicester fired by defeats at Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday, it was the hosts who sprung from the blocks to make all the early running. Kieran Trippier made a sensational double block within two minutes to deny Lloyd Dyer and as the early onslaught continued, Tom Heaton was perfectly placed to save Anthony Knockaert’s stinging 20-yard effort But it took just 14 minutes for the opening goal to arrive. The Clarets conceded possession and as Luke Vardy was slipped in, Ben Mee was adjudged to have nudged the City striker in the back. And, predictably, ex-Claret Nugent made no mistake as he stroked home his seventh and the Foxes 10th penalty of the season! It was no more than Leicester deserved, but Burnley slowly began to settle and from their first opening of the game in the 26th minute they came close to snatching an equaliser. Trippier drilled over a right wing cross and Ings’ flick header beat Kasper Schmeichel but bobbled off the foot of the upright and out to safety. The Clarets though would have perhaps been glad to get to the sanctuary of the dressing room just a goal down. But City could – and probably should – have put daylight between themselves and the Clarets four minutes from half time. Nugent looked offside as he slipped the ball square to strike partner Vardy, who shuffled across the box, fired wide and sunk to his knees as he looked to cut the ball back across Heaton. Back came Burnley and in stoppage time, following Trippier’s blocked free kick, the full back found Ings, who swivelled and fired across Schmeichel but wide. Hope Marney's back. If he is, I fancy us to grab a draw.
They seem to be stuttering a bit, hopefully that will continue tomorrow. A draw would be great, a win incredible. Just hope for a decent performance after our mini dip.

Thought the ref's had a good game in general so far. But that was a soft penalty. Shackell should never have put us in that position in the first place.
We've defended well enough, we've still got a chance. Our pressing is good. Would like to see Arfield and Kightly on the ball a bit more.

Looked a clear penalty to me. You can't barge into people in the box like Mee did and expect to get away with it.
That apart we're being taken apart again, just like in the first-half against Barnsley.

Simply not good enough,a very poor first half performance,with the gift of a soft penalty to them thanks to a shocking cross field pass from Shackell,luckily we are only one down and in with a chance,but unless we decide to play some football in their half there wont be much chance of a comeback..we did play a bit better in the last 15 mins,but gave them some glorious chances and we need to improve in the second half

Even if we do lose today, it's not 'season over'. It'll be one of our toughest games and we're still very much in it at half-time.
Ings has been unlucky and they look very apprehensive of Vokes.
Not sure how Nugent avoided a yellow-card for that foul, either.

I've only seen this from the start of the second half but so far I am NOT impressed with the ref's decisions!! Nugent should be on a yellow for that STAMP on Trips & IMO Kightly was brought down in the box.
If this is the sort of decisions you've been seeing for the last few games then I can totally understand the depth of reactions to the officials and it's absolutely shocking

smiles a lot but a nasty player Nugent... 2 nasty tackles that could each have neen yellow carded, the second on Trippier a horror leaving his foot in on Trippier's ankle.

That wasn't a bad miss by Vokes it was a brilliant save worthy of Schmeichel senior. Not sure my heart could stand too many live games. Burnley were slow out of the blocks and shackell didn't look as sharp in terms of distribution as I would have expected. We did really well to come back and if we hadn't kept it in the air so much and given them then ball back we could have nicked it. A point earned not two given away.

Aye looking back it was a good save Soapy, i was just @#$%& off that he didn't bury it and put us in the lead..

Kightly's not been on the best of form lately.
He still works hard for the team though when its not coming off for him, which is more than can be said of his replacement.

I'd have taken a point before kick-off, plus my Nugent to score and Ings to score in 90 mins bets came in so I'm happy with that

not bad really, nil-nil next week for QPR and Leicester whilst we put about 14 goals past imploding Blackpool will at least put us back on track and boost the GD

I said when Nugent scored, "oh well, that's his goal out of the way". It's like a 1 goal headstart, it's that inevitable.

Seeing as Stan and Treacle are far better crossers of the ball than either Kightly or Arfield it's obvious those two get in because of their work-rate, which is phenomenal. If Treacy's in front of Stan then you can only assume that his work-rate exceeds that of Stan down Gawthorpe and that doesn't surprise me. I can remember posting on here after watching Stan's first couple of games that you could see why Fat Sam had offloaded him, he wasn't his type of player at all, didn't track back, and didn't want to know about anything that remotely looked like a 50/50. He works a bit harder now, but Dyche clearly isn't that impressed with what he sees in training.
I would think Wallace could be first sub when he gets fit again. He's not everyone's cup of tea, but there's more graft in him than either Treacle or Stan.

Fair comment, it's the work ethic thing.
Not a bad option to have last 15 minutes though is Stan.
Could be a great player but his attitude is still somewhat suspect.
